Wataniya Telecom Sponsors UNESCO/Amir Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize Ceremony

Wataniya Telecom is proud to announce its recent sponsorship of the late Amir Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah UNESCO Prize ceremony which took place last Wednesday (February 29th) at Sabah Al-Salem Theater in Kuwait University.

The ceremony was under the patronage and attendance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Ahmad Al-Saadoun and Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf and senior state officials.

Abdolaziz Al-Balool PR Director of Wataniya Telecom was present on behalf of the company during the ceremony where Dr. Douglas Biklen an American distinguished promoter of education for persons with disabilities, was awarded as the winner of the 2011 UNESCO/Amir Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize.

Established in 2002, The UNESCO/Amir Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize recognizes and rewards the outstanding activities of individuals, groups, organizations or centers that promote quality education for persons with intellectual disabilities. The prize is generously funded by the Kuwaiti government where 23 candidates are nominated by Member States and an award is given once every two years.
Regarding Wataniya Telecom’s sponsorship, Abdolaziz Al-Balool expressed the company’s pleasure in taking part at such an important and influential ceremony and also expressed his pride in the role taken by Kuwaiti government by saying: “The Kuwaiti government has demonstrated its commitment to support significant projects and the people with special needs all over the world. As a local telecom operator we are always enthusiastic to take part in events that reflect our belief is promoting communication with other cultures and securing education for all people.”

Dr. Mohammad Al-Hamami, UNESCO GM deputy, GM of UNESCO Beirut’s office was also present at the ceremony and gave a speech praising Kuwait’s role and support to UNESCO’s projects.
Dr. Biklen is Dean of the School of Education, Professor and founding faculty member of the Center on Human Policy, Law and Disability Studies, Syracuse University (USA). Over the past 40 years, his work has inspired researchers and given hope to many families of persons with disabilities from around the world.
During a gala dinner held in honor of the participating delegations, Wataniya Telecom was honored by the Minister of Education and Higher Education Minister Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf in the presence of Public Relations assistant manager Hamad al-Matar.
